DIVISION ONE Away v Sth District Twilight 3.03.21

WON 6-3

The game started at breakneck pace, with the first three innings going in a blink of an eye with no score from either team. Troy was really keeping them quiet and came out after four with six strikeouts to his name. The Hawks scored a pair of runs in the fourth, but we equaled that tally when we stole successfully and Wade got Nat home. Tolsy relieved Troy, and in the last 2.1 innings, struck out six batters with no hits and caught the other in a masterful display of power pitching and control. We completed the win with four runs in the last when Muggsy belted a stand up double, Tolsy put down a perfect bunt to advance him and reach first, Abbey and Wade both had hits and we comfortably ran out winners. Hits : Wade Moore, Ryan Muggleton 2, Todd Dunstall, Ethan Marchioro, Josh Tols, Craig Abbott 1.

DIVISION ONE At Don Klaebe Field 7.07.21 v Sth District

WON 3-2 This was a particularly tight encounter, which went right down to the wire, and was won in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off. Joel pitched and was well in control until they put him over the fence twice to score their only runs for the game, and we got one back when Troy slapped a long ball to score Cezar. The game really picked up in intensity and we were still one down coming to the last with Tolsy taking the reins and shutting them down. Up to the plate marched Todd who promptly hit a huge bomb to tie the score, and with all the guys doing their bit, and a hit up the middle by Muggsy, Troy enjoyed the feeling of crossing the plate for the win. Hits : Troy Nicholson 3, Daniel Chapman 2, Todd Dunstall (HR), Cesar Perez, Ryan Muggleton, Craig Abbott, Nathan Nicholson, Josh Tols 1.

So, the season is done and dusted for the Div One team, finishing just one spot out of the finals. A few missed opportunities earlier in the season, and who knows ? Still - very enjoyable.

DIVISION TWO At Don Klaebe Field 7.07.21 v Sth District

WON 4-2 Mitch started and did four solid innings before Tyson came to the mound. We started well with two on the board in the first due to some walks and some hits, but the game slowed and there was no scoring until the fifth when both sides got one each. Hits were at a premium, and we managed the win with only three - namely one each to Brayden Marchioro, Jarrod Marsland and Harry Kiss,

DIV SIX

Played their Semi final up at Kensington and didn't have their best outing, going down 0-12. It was just one of those days, when every hit went straight to a fielder and every catch was taken, and they always seemed to find the gaps. Oh well, all round a pretty good season.

WOMAN'S LEAGUE

Played their Semi under the lights at West Beach, and agonizingly lost 4-5. Carly played well, pitching and having three hits, and the others to hit were Leah Turner, Sarah McMahon, Alyssa Lasscock and Catie and Sammy Berry. Get 'em next year girls.

JUNIORS

The U15 (Junior League)

Lost 4-14 to Henley & Grange in their first semi. Toby snaffled three pop-ups , but the Rams' bats were too heavy and even the speedy Zach couldn't make an impression.

U13 (Little League)

Went up to Northern Districts who were the top team in the comp, and although fighting hard and putting up a great fight, went down 7-19. We started well, putting on three, but these were answered in spades, and although Alice and Ollie pitched really well, we could not stem the flow. Run scorers were Alice, Ollie, Dash, Dakota, Jack and Luka.

U11 (Minor League)

Played a blinder which went into extra innings. The kids were calm and collected and did what they had to do, and all the anxiety was seen on the faces of the mums and dads who were pacing up and down. Anyway, they got the job done by beating Adelaide 12-11, and will now progress to the Preliminary Final next week. All the best kids.

DIVISION ONE

Home at Don Klaebe Field v GGCD 23.02 21 Twilight

Lost 2-4

Troy Nicholson put in his best performance on the mound for the season thus far, starting and running out of pitches in the seventh, having put thirteen strike-outs behind him. Game was one all on his departure, and he was stiff not to get the W, with the visitors scoring three in the last. We got our first in the fifth on the back of aggressive base running, and another in the last after Nat hit to get Muggsy home. All in all, our bats didn't get on top of their starter and Nat Nicholson had three hits, Troy Nicholson and Daniel Chapman had one each.

DIVISION ONE

Away at GGCD Sunday 28.02.21

WON 9-4 In a strange programming quirk, we again had to play GGCD. This time we reversed the result and tipped them out of contention for finals, and quietened their rather raucous bench at the same time. Joel took to the mound, and put in a beauty, getting his well deserved win at the end and getting a bit drenched for his trouble. After Todd audaciously stole home in the first and DChap got Cesar home, the Dodgers equalled, but in the third Wade got on base and Cesar scored him and Troy put one out into the street for two more. Nothing for a few innings, and both Clubs put in their relievers - in our case it was Josh Tols who threw three quality innings with no hits, but we took advantage of their man in the seventh, when Cesar hit, and Wade scored on a passed ball, and we got another after a balk, another from a hit batter, and totaled four for the dig. A comprehensive win, with the hits being: Todd Dunstall, Cesar Perez 2, Wade Moore, Troy Nicholson (HR), Daniel Chapman, Ryan Muggleton 1.

DIVISION TWO

Away v GGCD Sunday 28.02 21

WON 9-4 Coincidentally the same score-line. Doesn't matter - it's a win. The Fireman was on the mound for the first three, and put in his best performance for the year. However, he excelled with the bat, and in the first two digs both he and Brayden were batting one thousand, with numbers one and two both hitting the bases. The game was poised at two all until the sixth, when with two out, Marso crucially batted Harry in, Carly walked, Mitch and Brayden both hit again, Rhys stood in the way of a pitch and we bolted away. Four in the next and it was all over, and with Tyson relieving in grand manner, we got the win. Hits: Brayden Marchioro 4, Mitch Fienemann 3, Jimmy Chu 2, Rhys Owen, Jarrod Marsland 1.

DIV FIVE

Just couldn't crack it for a winning game, losing 3-21. Some of the boys got great experience from the season, and hopefully will put it to advantage in the coming years.

DIV SIX

An absolute pleasure to be able to say that they will be starting their finals campaign next week. Marso got them home with a winning performance from the middle, ably backed up by his miserly defence in a fine 15-8 win over Southern Districts. Hits : Fantastic to see Cam Britcher with three including two doubles (legs were pumping), and Tim Fawcett also three, Nick McCormack got two that also featured a triple, Bret Teakle got a couple as did James Stradling, and Troy Kortekaas got one. Go get 'em boys.

DIV SEVEN

Unfortunately season over for these boys, going down to the Hawks 8-14. Had a rough chance of making finals until a few weeks ago. But the game was important for a couple of reasons - namely Shane Lodge's 400th game and Keith Mortimore's swansong. What can you say about these two? Shane has overcome adversity to get to where he has got to, and Morty has played his final game at age 80. Both efforts of which to be enormously proud. Hits in this game: Shane Lodge 2, Aaron Petros, Derek Milne, Casey Moore, Noel Watson, Tim Fawcett, Laurie Sinclair, Shane Lavida 1.

WOMEN’S LEAGUE

Two games for the girls this week, firstly a trip to Sturt on Monday evening for a win against the Saints 9-5 with Darna getting the win and Carly hitting three times, Leah and Catie twice, and Darna, Kenzi and Megan once each.

Game two was at home base where the atmosphere was great again, and the girls put on their best display to defeat Goodwood 18-1 in a confidence boosting win leading into next week's finals. Carly brained them from the middle, and the hits were: Carly Moore, Leah Turner, Darna Veen, Rachel Coutie 3, Carol Ryan 2, Sarah McMahon. Alyssa Lasscock 1. Go get 'em girls.

JUNIOR LEAGUE

Last game for the season and the boys put on a good one with Toby pitching a couple of great innings for a 7-3 win against the Redsox, with good all round at bats and tight defence capped off by a terrific catch by Lachy.

LITTLE LEAGUE

The much anticipated showdown between the Woodville side and the Senators turned out to be a big win for the Senators 20-4. The game was played in good spirit with good performances from both parties. Names to come to mind are Jacob, Will, Caleb, Bohdi, Ollie, Alice, Dakota, Ollie, Vincent and Jack. Players all contributed and pleasingly, the Senators make their way to the finals. The improvement made by all players was marked, and a big thank-you, as always, to the Mums and Dads for their input.

MINOR LEAGUE

Also on their way to a finals campaign with a come from behind win over top team Dodgers 6-5. Archie, Chace and Remy were excellent, pitching us to the win, with Chace, Archie, Remy, Hugo and Anton hitting well. Home final next week. Go gang !!

DIVISION ONE

Home at Don Klaebe Field v Sturt Twilight 9.02.21

Lost 2-12

We got our two run tally in the first, with Wade walking, Troy and Todd both hitting and Muggsy bringing one home and Ethan running in another to head Sturt 2-1, and with the big fireman hurling them down in fine fashion, scoring dried up for both teams for a few innings. They pinched three in the fourth and Mitch sat down to let Muggsy strut his stuff, but the defence let him down and we started to leak a few. Strong side Sturt, would have been nice to get a bit closer. Hits: Todd Dunstall, Troy Nicholson, Ryan Muggleton, Daniel Chapman 1.

DIVISION ONE

Away v Glenelg 13.02.21

WON 9-8 Special win this one, with half our starting line-up at nuptials in Clare (congrats Mitch), but the tenacity of the Senators came to the fore, and we ground out a fine win in twelve hard fought innings. The start was spectacular against a familiar face, with Wade getting on second, Callum scoring him and Abbey getting Todd home and scoring on the Skipper's hit. Troy came off the mound after four, not knowing he would have to return after Joel reached his pitch limit later in the game. Richard hit in the third to get Ethan home, but then the fireworks started when the Bays streaked to the lead after successive homers. Joel got his own back when he put one over himself to bask in the glory of his first Div One home run. The game was tied at eight each after nine and, boy, it got real tense in the tenth and eleventh when we managed a single run. Nathan came on and held them one, two, three for a great win in the circumstances. Hits: Callum Park 4, Wade Moore 3, Craig Abbott, Ethan Marchioro, Richard Olsen, Tom Dineen 2, Todd Dunstall, Nathan Nicholson, Troy Nicholson, Joel Chapman (HR) 1.

DIVISION TWO

Away v Glenelg 13.02.21

Lost 3-4 We were a bit stiff here, with the scores tight all day, and the Bays getting ahead in the seventh with a little blooper that scored two. We managed to peg them, back one run at a time, but couldn't quite make it. Rhys and Nathan put up a great fight on the mound, and a big thank-you to Doggy, who looked like he could still play at this level, and to Carly, who caught superbly. Hits: Jimmy Chu 2, Todd Dunstall, Rhys Owen, Jarrod Marsland 1.

DIV FIVE

Lost to West Torrens 4-14. The boys are still seeking that elusive win, and here's hoping it is not too far away.

DIV SIX

They had a terrific win over the Angels 15-3 to firmly consolidate their finals appearance. Marso was in top form on the hill, and King K helped out at the death. The batting depth was apparent with eight hitters, being Cuz, Nick 2, and one each to Flash, Behr, The King, Marso, Cam and Dorny

DIV SEVEN

Didn't have a lot of luck against the unbeaten, top of the table Angels and went down 1-15 with only Derek Milne getting two hits, and Casey Moore and Shane Lavida snaring one each. Any finals aspirations are now well and truly buried.

WOMEN’S LEAGUE

Game was played at Don Klarbe Field (at long last) in front of an appreciative crowd, and the girls did the right thing by beating their opponents from down south 14-3. Carly gave Darna a spell from the mound, and Darna revelled in the opportunity to star with four hits and a spectacular face plant at third. What does that dirt taste like? All in all, a terrific night, with the canteen and bar doing great business.. That's what we want. All the girls did their bit with the hitters being Darna Veen 4, Sarah McMahon 3, Carly Moore, Alyssa Lasscock 2, Leah Turner, Megan Brownbill (of the flashy shoes) 1.

JUNIORS (U15)

Met their match against Kensington and lost 9-19, with no hits and plenty of errors. So it's onwards and upwards.

LITTLE LEAGUE (Woodville)

Had a great win over the Dodgers 12-10 and the pitching of Noah to start and Indie to close was terrific. The Dodgers had a tough pitcher, but our bats performed admirably and came from behind to score five in our last for the win. A KC against their last batter by Indie was a highlight, as was Matty's two run double earlier.

LITTLE LEAGUE (Senators)

Lost to Adelaide 7-14. Sets up a great rivalry between these two teams. Luka home run, Ollie home run and Vince a double were the major points, and the pitching of Alice and Ollie who had four strikeouts each was real good stuff, as was the brick wall behind the plate - Dakota.

MINORS (U11)

Beat the Redsox 8-5. Again a come from behind win and Archie and Remy were good on the mound, Felix notched up a homer, and Chace and Luke got into the act with hits as well. Kyla took a nice catch.

PEE WEE

Once again, all played well.
