DIVISION ONE

Twilight away v WTorrens Tue 28.02.23

Lost 4-5

We took an immediate liking to their pitcher with leadoff batter Muggsy hitting a nice double and Drew gave us a two run start when he brought him home with a towering homer over the centrefield fence.  Joel hit the fence in the next dig and Muggsy scored him, and things were looking rosy.  Until the fourth however, when we had a nightmare of an inning and conceded five unearned runs with walks and errors combining to put us well behind the eightball.  Finners tried hard to rectify the situation when he popped one over the fence to put us just the one run behind, but we couldn't close the gap which puts paid to finals participation I think.  Cesar closed in fine fashion and the hits were  :  Ryan Muggleton 2, Drew Janssen (HR), Mitch Fienemann (HR), Kieren Pett, Joel Chapman 1

DIVISION ONE

At Don Klaebe Field Sat 4.03.23 v Kensington     WON 8-2

Tyson McKee was on the mound producing easily his best performance for the season, restricting their hitters to one run through six innings.  They scored one run in the second and we equalled in the fourth courtesy of a Wade double and RBI.  But we weren't ready for the fireworks in the seventh when one of their dudes put one over the fence and flipped his bat almost into our dugout and blew us kisses on his way round.  Talk about a red rag to a bull, as players and spectators reacted instantly, and it was the start of a spirited seven run inning of ours that proved to be the winner.  Callum doubled to rightfield, Joel doubled, Muggsy and Drew both had RBI's and Troy N put on three with the best and most timely home run in ages.  Thanks pal, and it would have been gracious if that guy had made it onto the field for the final handshake.  Reminiscent of the old Terry Millwood days.   Cesar finished them off in the final two.  Hits  :  Troy Nicholson (HR), Wade Moore, Joel Chapman 2, Drew Janssen, Callum Park 1.  Still in with a chance - see what happens at the Port on Tuesday.

DIVISION TWO

At Don Klaebe Field Sat 4.03.23 v Kensington

WON 13-3

This encounter was a walk in the park for our boys, as Joe Chapman and Mitch Fienemann had no trouble keeping the Cardinals' batters in check, whilst we managed five in the first and eight in the fourth.  The Kensi boys completely lost their radar, and walks were the order of the day, so much so that the mercy rule was brought in to play.  Made the finals these guys, so good luck in ensuing weeks.  Hits  :  Nick Kuhn 2, Mitch Fienemann, Rhys Owen, Joe Papps, Armando Ramirez 1.

DIVISION THREE

At Don Klaebe Field Sat 4.03.23 v Kensington     WON 4-3

Jarrod and Two-hit Tommy both hit in the first to post two, and good defence got us out of trouble a couple of times, but we were not too clever in the fourth when we loaded the bases with none out and failed to score.  In the bottom of the last, Doggy hit and we had a runner on third, and their pitcher clearly balked to bring us the winning run.  Bad luck we just missed out on finals action.  Hits  :  Breandon Taheny, Shane Brown 2, Tom Dineen, David Lodge, Jose Ramirez 1.

DIVISION SIX

Away v Port

Lost 3-17

Got through the season without a win, but had fun and really brought some new blood into the Club which augers well for the future.  Hits  :  Flash, Josh Boden, Andrew Eime, Phil Zschorn 1.

DIVISION SEVEN

Away v WTorrens

WON 19-11

Seventeen hits tell the story of this finals bound team of high achievers.  Defense has to be tightened up a bit, but that will happen with  diligent practice sessions I'm sure.  The pitchers, namely Sully, Casey and King all had a good workout in the lead-up to finals, but we closed for the first (and I am reliably told) the last time by Noel "Nolan Ryan" Watson.  Hits  :  Dorny, Nicko, Casey 3, Cuz, King 2, Watto, China, Sully and Fitzy.

DIVISION EIGHT

At Don Klaebe Field Sat 4.03.23

Lost 6-17

The excitement machine won't play finals this time, but they are a hoot to watch - you never know what you will get.  The all stealing, all running Sturt got the jump on us in the first, and try as we may, they were out of sight.  Hits  :  Derek Milne, Shane Nicholson, Hoony 2, Greg Ox, Kim Soung, Matt Davey 1.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE

Away v Sturt Sun 5.03.23

Draw 5-5

Probably a fitting result in this rain affected game, as the pitchers were handed a cake of soap to deal with, and found the going difficult. Carly walked in the first, stole and Darna's sacfly got her home, but the home side got on top with three in the second.  Third, and almost ditto - Carly got on with a hit, Darna hit, Ash hit, Smack hit and we put on two and with terrific defence we went to the last all square at 3-3.  Ash and Smack both brought in runs and we were two up and the rain caused a delay, and with thunder and lightning all around, the Sturt girls got the two runs needed for the draw.  Darna, Ash and Taylor battled hard from the mound.  Hits  :  Ash George 2, Carly Moore, Darna BoersVeen, Sarah McMahon, Leah Turner, Catie Berry 1.  Finished on top of the ladder.

DIVISION TWO

At Don Klaebe Field Fri 3.03.23

WON  7-4

Good fighting win which really exemplified their desire for the contest.  Indy, Di and Alice were the pitchers, and after giving the Dodgers' girls a four run start in the first, we held them for the rest, and came rattling home to walk them off.  No finals for this team, but they certainly held their own all season.  A credit to them and their coaches.  Hits  :  Indie 2, Christie, Dakota, Mel 1.  Great mix of youngies and the more mature.

JUNIORS

U15 - had another big win, this time against GGCD 21-0.  Finished top.

U14 - beaten by Goodwood 1-17.

U13-1 defeated Goodwood 11-5 to cement their place in finals.

U13-2 were defeated by Goodwood 1-20.

U11 - had a terrific win against one of the top sides to finish their season on a high 6-5.

U10 - lost 0-8 to Goodwood.

DIVISION ONE

Twilight  Away v Glenelg Tue 21.02.23

Lost 1-5

What a dreary game on which to have to report.  For two reasons - the first being that we lost to the second bottom side in Glenelg, and the second that we played like I have not seen for a long while, and don't particularly want to see again.  The one and only highlight occurred in the first when Wade walked and Cesar hit to put him on second - end of highlight reel.  Tyson McKee started and did three, TVS managed one, and Cesar, who is improving his pitching every outing, pitched three scoreless innings.  A couple of monumental errors concluded a forgettable night.  Since Christmas, we find ourselves on the slippery slope out of finals.  Four to go - have to win them all.  Hits  :  Troy Nicholson, Cesar Perez, Daniel Chapman, Nathan Nicholson.

DIVISION ONE

At Don Klaebe Field v Goodwood  Sat 25.02.23

WON 6-4

What a turnaround from Tuesday's lacklustre effort when we outscored the Indians in a crackerjack game to keep the finals aspirations  up and alive.  Cesar bunted in the first frame and it was profitable as one run came in followed by another on an error.  They had to wait until the fourth for their first off Drew in his 6.1 innings stint with ten strikeouts, but they sneaked a couple in the seventh to become scary.  Drew silenced them with a two run homer after Nathan got on courtesy of another error and the breathing got a lot easier.  Cesar chimed in with one inning and Tyson McKee finished.  A meritorious win.  Had it not been for the tireless effort of Shane Nicholson and his small band of helpers, this game and all others on our home ground would most probably not have been able to have taken place, as the bases, mound and home-plate were in a trecherous condition after overnight rain, and two tons of earth were required in a hurry. Thanks to Adamis.  Hits  :  Drew Janssen - HR - (just off the plane from his brother's wedding in Belgium), Troy Nicholson 2, Callum Park, Cesar Perez, Nathan Nicholson 1.

DIVISION TWO

At Don Klaebe Field v Goodwood Sat 25.02.23

WON 6-4

The game began at breakneck pace with six batters trecking back to the dugouts  in record time.  Joey Papps stayed a bit longer and hit a monster two run dinger in the second, but we had to stave off an Indian comeback and Kuhna was just the man for the job when he bobbed up on third, and his and Toddy's RBI's got our noses in front.  Finner's two run hit helped a lot towards the win, as did Pappsy's base running - in trouble at first, then second and then more strife at third.  Survived them all.  Hits  :  Mitch Fienemann, Joe Papps (HR) 2, Todd Dunstall, Rhys Owen, Andrew Chapman 1.  Joe Chapman and Nathan Nicholson were the men on the mound who held them.

DIVISION THREE

At Don Klaebe Field v Goodwood Sat 25.02.23

Lost 1-4

One lousy inning - the second - and they put four on and that was the game.  Jimmy Chu provided a bit of excitement with a double, but there was no-one behind him to take advantage.  Apart from that, we didn't get too many on base at all, until Carly got a nice hit off the veteran John Challinor.  Tyson was steady in his five digs and Doggy cleaned them up.  Hits  :  Tom Dineen (Two-hit Tommy) 2, James Chu, Amando Ramiraz, Carly Moore, Jarrod Marsland 1.  Welcome home from Mexico Amando and Jose.

DIVISION SIX

Lost 0-17 with Eddie Ansell, Josh Mignone, Andrew Eime and Flash all getting one hit.

DIVISION SEVEN

Scheduled to play at Flinders University, but no dice as the ground was unplayable.

DIVISION EIGHT

Lost to Glenelg on the back diamond 7-13 due to the boys trying to get the main diamond up and running.  Kim Soung took full advantage of this by hitting a home run and a triple, and Derek Milne, David Ding, Mike Chemny, Tony Tuttle, Matt Davey, Kim Hoony and Shane Lodge all hit singles.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE

Away v Adelaide Sun 26.02.23

WON 16-1

First dig went like this  -  Carly caught out, Darna hit, Ash walk, Smack walk, Alyssa walk, Amara HPB, Taylor hit, Megs hit, Carly (second appearance) hit, for the maximum five runs.  Second dig - only two runs with three left out there, third and the maximum again when Darna hit a sac fly and a big hit fromTaylor, and four in the last with Catie whacking a double and Taylor hitting the leftfield fence.  Some of our defence was exceptional, and once again we used one pitcher per innings - namely Amara, Ash, Smack and Taylor.  Hits  :  Taylor McKay 3, Sarah McMahon, Megan BoersVeen 2, Carly Moore, Darna BoersVeen, Ash George, Alyssa Lasscock, Catie Berry 1.

DIVISION TWO

Lost to Kensington 11-2

The ladies started well and it was a close battle for the first couple of innings. Alice held them to 1 run and then things went pear shaped in the third innings when we made too many errors and didn’t support Dakota on the mound. Bats were kept quiet all night and our runs were from walks and pass balls.

JUNIORS

U15

Had a convincing win 22-0 - Great pitching by Oliver Hayes and finished off with Alice Brown. (Oliver 3 innings 8 strike outs and Alice 1 innings  2 strike outs) Thorough team effort. Hits: Oliver Hayes 4, Will Stock 2 hits with a triple, Alice Brown & Matthew Nanasi 2 hits, Oliver Van Dommele, Noah Atkinson, Indie O’Hazy Zschorn, Dakota Ding and Benji Hayes 1 hit each.

U14

Lost to Port 21-2 All pitchers tried hard. Luke started and took a nice catch on the foul line, then Will Stock came in and did really well striking out 4 hitters and then Rikki Lee finished off at the end of the game after taking two nice catches.  The Port Adelaide team are in 2nd place and hit pretty well. Hits: Luke Fawcett 2, Bodhi Forward, Will Stock, Xavier Gower and Max Clutterham 1 each.

U13-1

Lost to H&G 11-6 We started off well and then let the pressure get the best of us. Regardless of the outcome there were some shining moments including Benji Hayes and Anton Kumar both hitting fantastic triples.

U13-2

Defeated Adelaide 9-8 after needing the maximum five in the last to win.  Great team effort after Ruby Webber was injured in the first and Remy Nixon-Smith had to catch, and Max Clutterham threw three quality innings.

U11

Tried hard, eventually going down 11-4. Great to see a nice double from Isaac Dorian, and Bodhi Ansell struck out 3 batters in the 1st innings. Hits: Isaac Dorian  2, Bodhi Ansell and Sebastien Marinoff 1

U10

Had a great game with Hugo leading the way with a safe hit and throwing the first innings for a shut out. We were 3-0 up and looking great. H&G came back with 2 -3 run innings to go 6-3 up and we only managed to score another 2 to go down by the narrowest of margins 6-5. Great game - the closest they’ve been to a win all year.

Last Minor Round games this week and then some of our teams are off to the finals.

DIVISION ONE

Twilight v ETorrens at Don Klaebe Field Tue 14.02.23

Lost 5-6

Ethan's bunt got the ball rolling in the second which put two on base and Joel managed to score them both.  We were certainly holding our own and after three we had a 2-0 lead with Drew keeping their bats at bay.  All Hell broke loose in the next dig however, when the Redsox piled on five runs after we worked hard for two outs.  Hard to win games from here, but we have done it numerous times before, and gave ourselves a huge sniff when we replied with three of our own to equalise.  There was an error after a Muggs hit which put two on, Finners had a RBI, as did Nat and Wade's single scored another.  So to the fifth and a passed ball gave them the one run advantage, and we couldn't close the gap.  TVS finished proceedings in the final inning.  Hits  :  Wade Moore, Troy Nicholson 2, Drew Janssen, Cesar Perez, Ryan Muggleton, Joel Chapman, Nathan Nicholson 1.  One we should have won, which makes for a difficult run home.

DIVISION ONE

At Don Klaebe Field Sat 18.02.23 v Sth District

Lost 10-25

What a queer game baseball is.  The Hawks hit the ground running and posted four, four and four in their first three digs to go to a match winning lead on the back of some terrific pitching from their import, who didn't give us a sniff.  Everything they hit in the air went sailing over the fence, and we seemed powerless to contain them.  The fourth inning produced thirteen runs, and TVS came into the game to stop the bleeding, and thanks to him and Tyson McKee and Cesar, no more runs for them.  But we had ideas of our own and after we loaded the bases in the sixth, Pappsy made a hero of himself by batting in a run to put us on the board, and the seventh and last produced our true form when we thrived on their second stringers and got nine big ones including a grand slam home run by Wade.  You can't say we gave them a scare at this stage, but their demeanor certainly changed, and we know we are better than that earlier effort.  The week previous we were at our fighting best, but started this one a bit meekly.  Hits  :  Joe Papps 3, Wade Moore (GSHR) 2, Nick Kuhn, Cesar Perez, Troy Nicholson, Nathan Nicholson, Ryan Muggleton 1.

DIVISION TWO

At Don Klaebe Field Sat 18.02.23 v Sth District

Lost 3-6

Finners was on the mound and they got one off him in the first, and when he left the game after three we were leading 2-1 thanks to his dinky shot over shortstop, Kosi's run and Rhys's RBI.  Pappsy's single after Taheney's fine triple gave us another, but they scored towards the back end of the game to give us the loss.  Hits  :  Ikeda Kosuke 2, Rhys Owen, Joe Papps, Breandon Taheny 1.

DIVISION THREE

At Don Klaebe Field Sat 18.02.23 v Sth District

Lost 4-13

Tyson wasn't having it all his own way on the hill and the Southerners made the most of this situation and had plenty of runs up before our batters woke up to the fact that we were in a ball game.  Harrison was our only hitter with two, and that's not going to win you many games.

DIVISION SIX

Away v Sth Districts

Lost 1-11.

Getting close to the end of season, and let's hope that first win is coming.  Hits  :  Eddie Ansell 2. Owen Williams, Tim Fawcett, Andrew Eime, Di Barry 1.

DIVISION SEVEN

Away v Sth District

WON  13-9

Whew - first win for the day!  You can trust this mob to come through when you need them.  Didn't have it all their own way however starting poorly and being 1-5 before scoring seven to take the lead, but getting into arrears again before notching five to take control and shutting them out in the last.  Casey and King were the main men in the middle, and the hits were  :  Cuz, King 3, Rev, Nicko and Nate 2, Watto, Dorny and Flash 1.  Great to finish a two game losing streak, and now back in fighting contention.

DIVISION EIGHT

At home against one of the top teams in Adelaide and went down 9-14 with a very creditable performance.  We did not give up any big innings and certainly had highlights of our own.  Derek's catch in the outfield followed by one by Matt and the pitcher Ding shut down one innings - pleasure to watch.  Hits  :  Kim Soung, Shane Nicholson 2, Derek Milne, Greg Oxenham, David Ding, David Brooks 1.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE

At Don Klaebe Field Sun 19.02.23 v ETorrens   WON 15-1

Happy to watch a fine side go to work and put in a solid performance in the lead up to finals.  A bit of  work for the girls with five pitchers rotated over the five opposition innings giving up a solitary run.  Amara, Ash, Taylor, Darna and Carly all had a crack and all looked particularly solid.  We batted only four times for three maximum totals, and whilst the pitching was impressive, our defence was superb.  Three fine catches in the second proved that point.  Hits  :  Carly Moore, Darna BoersVeen, Leah Turner 2, Ash George, Sarah McMahon, Amara Quinn (triple), Taylor McKay 1.

DIVISION TWO

At Don Klaebe Field Fri 17.02.23 v H & G

Lost 4-13

First inning - and the Brown sisters both got on base and we scored three and were looking the part.  Good pitching by Alice kept us in the game until H&G found their groove. Hits:  Alice Brown 2, Molly Brown, Dakota Ding, Toni Ansell, Di Barry, Christie Ikeda 1.

JUNIORS

U15

Lost their first game all season to Goodwood 7-3.

The umpire called time before the scheduled time so our chance was cut short for a comeback…. Oliver Hayes pitching was great again. Good time for a loss and a think!

U14

Went down to Southern Districts 14-2

Tim and the gang were hoping for a closer game and a chance at the finals….. it just wasn’t to be on a late Sunday afternoon. Hits: Chace Wallis and Riley Sinclair 1 eachU13-1 Great competitive game against Port in which we were behind early and were good enough to equalise mid-game before piling on five to come home winners 9-4.

U13-2

Lost to Goodwood 19-2

Tough day at Goodwood in the sunshine - great to see new faces on the mound - Aiden and Remy having a go after Roni and Max.

U11

Lost to Southern Districts Orange 8-3 on the Main Diamond - great to see everyone there early and enthusiastic.

U10

Lost to Adelaide 8-3.
