DIVISION ONE

Twilight v Sturt at Don Klaebe Field 7.02.23

Lost 3-4

Real hard to put on paper exactly what occurred at the back end of this game, so I won't even try. After copping two smashings this season from the Saints, both at their home ground by virtue of their dominant hitting, it was fantastic to keep them scoreless for the first five innings. We got on the board early thanks to an error which put Ethan on first and Cesar's double scored him. No more scores from anyone until the sixth, as Drew went on to record twelve strike-outs whilst conceding only two hits. They got one to equal, but we got our nose in front with a Cesar base hit, a Wade walk and a DChap hit to score. A home run against was exactly what was not needed, and three runs on to their total proved to be the decider as we could only claw back one in the last to fall agonisingly short. Our defence was superb all evening, giving absolutely nothing away. Hits : Cesar Perez 3, Drew Janssen, Daniel Chapman, Ryan Muggleton 1.

DIVISION ONE

Away v H & G Saturday 11.02.23

WON 13-12 in eleven innings. One for the ages this one, with a bit of everything. Wade doubled in the first but we couldn't capitalise on it, and they hit a two run homer to surge to the lead. In the second, DChap's hit and two walks filled the bases, but a contentious triple play shut us down, and another two run dinger in the next really put us under the pump. TVS came to the mound and slowed the scoring in a great display of power pitching. Finner's double in the next produced zero, that makes it 0-6, but we were rewarded at last in the sixth when after a couple of hits, Cesar put one in with an RBI. Once again we loaded the bases and with no outs, Drew knocked in a couple and Cesar another RBI. So we are 4-9 down and we load the bases again thanks to Finners, Joel and Nat, and step in Drew, who hits a Grand Slam home run and after they gift us a couple of walked in runs we score six and find ourselves 10-9 up after our eighth. Big hitting Hernandaz equalled us with another homer, so a scoreless ninth leads us to the tenth played under International Rules where you start the inning with runners on first and second. Our turn first and Drew hits to score one and Cesar likewise but that is shortlived as they do the same to us. 12-12. Wade injured his finger and was briefly replaced behind the dish by Drew, but made a recovery and was there at the end when Finners produced another RBI, and we hang on in the bottom of the eleventh to finish with a remarkable win. It all got a bit too much for some of their vocal locals during all this and one guy had to be given his marching orders. After several weeks of meagre hitting, how pleasing was it for the team to record sixteen hits today? Hits : Drew Janssen (GSHR) 5, Mitch Fienemann, Nathan Nicholson 3, Wade Moore, Ethan Marchioro, Cesar Perez, Daniel Chapman, Ryan Muggleton 1. Special mention to pitchers Tyson McKee, Todd VanSteensel, Joel Chapman and Cesar Perez who didn't flinch at the death.

DIVISION TWO

Away v H & G Saturday 11.02.23

Lost 0-12 It took us until the fourth before DChap recorded our first hit for the game, and by that stage we were six zip down - make that ten zip after the next, and they powered away to get another two. It is a large loss considering the importance of the game at this stage of the season. Thirteen hits to four tells the story. DChap took a blinder of a pop-up catch at first and must be seeing stars after giving the fence a nudge. The four hits were : Daniel Chapman, Tom Dineen, Joe Papps, Carly Moore 1.

DIVISION THREE

Away v H & G Saturday 11.02.23

Lost 1-7 We scored in the first off the back of a Breandan double, Toby pushing him around and a handy error, but that was the last of the scoring for the day. David Lodge took the first of his two fine catches next dig, as fine as you would see from a first baseman. Pappsy doubled in the third and we loaded the bases, but they were all left lamenting. This third dig really exposed our relatively inexperienced lineup, when the opposition went bananas an poured on seven runs. Just the one innings, otherwise a well fought ballgame. Our pitchers, Papps, Pett and Doggy, were valiant and, once again, our lack of hitting proved vital. Hits : doubles to Breandan Taheny, Joe Papps, singles to Kieran Pett and Shane Brown.

DIVISION SIX

Had a tough day against Glenelg losing 8-24. Gee it's beaut to see the positive attitude every week. Hits : Justin Randall 2, Tim Fawcett, Andrew Eime 1, Phil Zschorn 1.

DIVISION SEVEN

Second loss in a row for these finals contenders. No worries, let it settle and it will all happen. A few errors certainly contributed to the loss, which cannot be attributed to Sully on the mound with eleven strikeouts. Loss to GGCD 2-7 with the hits coming from King 2, Sully, Nicko, Dorny, Rev 1.

DIVISION EIGHT

Great effort to defeat Goodwood at their home ground 15-4. The enigmatic Derek Milne contributed three hits, and the other guys who put bat to ball were : Kim Soung, Greg Oxenham, Tony Tuttle, David Brooks, Shane Nicholson (a double), David Ding, Matt Davey. Aaron Petros weaved his magic on the mound.

WOMENS' LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE

At Don Klaebe Field Sunday 12.02.23 V Sth District

WON 11-9 Top of the table clash against an opponent that we hadn't beaten this season, so it was all on the line and I must say the ladies stood up magnificently in a topsy-turvey affair. They got one to start but Ash's superior base running was helpful as we powered on to put on three. They retaliated with three of their own and another two in the third, but Leah's hit to rightfield evened the score. Come the fourth and the Lady Hawks scored two after we really let them off the hook and could have had six outs in a clumsy effort defensively, poor old Taylor suffered after relieving Darna. But in the bottom of the inning, we took our foot off the brakes when Carly hit and got home on Darna's hit, and a wild throw saw Darna on third, and a little Ash chopper scored her but Ash was out at the plate after Smack got her to third. Leah with another RBI and we got the maximum five and that was the ballgame. A pleasure to watch after the tense affair the previous day in the Men's Division One - wow - two beauties in two days! Hits : Ash George, Sarah McMahon, Leah Turner 2, Carly Moore, Darna BoersVeen, Taylor McKay 1.

DIVISION TWO

At Don Klaebe Field Friday 10.02.23

Lost 7-16 Lost the game against the more experienced Sturt, but really were super competitive, scoring the maximum in the second inning, and putting it to them for a lot of the night. Pitching staff really held their own, with Indy, Christie and Dakota featuring, but the rising star had to be the debutant, Di with two strikeouts, to go with her two hits. Bridget also had two, along with Dakota and Indy (both doubles), and Toni Ansell and Molly one each.

JUNIORS

U15

Away v H & G 12.02.23

WON 14-0 Oliver Hayes - what more can you say - four innings, faced twelve batters and struck them all out and had four hits which included two doubles. MVP ?? All contributed - Jack behind the plate had to catch all those strikes and did it with style whilst getting a hit, Will Stock had two and Benji, Alice and Diesel had one. Still on top of the ladder.

U14

At home v GGCD 12.02.23

Won 2-1 According to all accounts - both from our people and the opposition people - this was a really high standard game. What's with our pitching at junior level ? Alice had twelve strikeouts and Dakota followed her with another four. Caleb Sinclair, Bodhi Forward and Alice Brown each had one hit.

U13 -1

WON 15-4 and the hard-working scorer from Mildura kindly made the effort to give me the details - but I lost them. Sorry - my bad.

U13 - 2 Lost to the speedy, base stealing Reds.

U11 Lost 5-6 in a close one.

U10 Lost 3-7

GODANATS

DIVISION ONE

Twilight Away v Glenelg 31.01.23

WON 10-4

The Bays knocked in one early run and we nearly equalled in the second with men on bases, but fell further behind when Drew uncharacteristically walked in a run. In the fourth Troy N doubled and Wade hit a single to bring him home, but the best was yet to come. Fifth and last dig and their pitchers were having a bit of trouble and loaded the bases and we were lucky enough to get a couple of freebees. Troy's two RBI hit was a big help, and, with none out, Rackers hit into a double play but scored a run and Cesar's whack to the outfield got more. Nine big ones and the game was done. Drew toiled away for three and a bit innings and Cesar did the rest. Hits : Cesar Perez, Troy Nicholson 2, Luke Rackerbrandt, Ryan Muggleton 1.

DIVISION ONE

Had a bye which meant we had to play our two's and threes against Gawler.

DIVISION TWO

At Don Klaebe Field Sat 4.02.23 v Gawler

WON 6-1

Tyson had a ball pitching to these guys and went the distance after giving up a single run in the first. Joe, at a wedding, would have been lamenting the fact that he was not on the mound, but our batting was the highlight, with Rhys and Kossi hitting early to post three and a Rhys double next dig putting another on the board. Crickey, Muggsy hit a double to equal that of Rhys's in the previous inning, and Pappsy chimed in with one of his own. A highlight was Kossi at shortstop, but the lowlight was leaving bases loaded out there twice. Hits : Rhys Owen 2, Nathan Nicholson, Ryan Muggleton, Kosuke Ikeda, Andrew Chapman, Joe Papps 1.

DIVISION THREE

At Don Klaebe Field Sat 4.02.23 v Gawler

WON 18-3

Doggy turned back the clock by taking on the responsibility of pitching the entire game and did it in style. Rhys's early triple got us away to a flyer and we had a fine time in the second with a flurry of runs and totalled eight with a Carly double amongst the pleasing aspects. Followed this up with a further four in the third and again in the fourth before we ran out of time. Hits : Rhys Owen, Carly Moore, Jarrod Marsland, Toby Kourtekaas 2, David Lodge, Shane Brown, Breandan Taheny, Kieran Pett 1.

DIVISION SIX

Very nearly cracked it for a win - oh so close losing 5-6. That elusive win cannot be too far away. Eddie Ansell made a name for himself by putting one over the fence for a homer and likewise Josh Mignone - great efforts.

DIVISION SEVEN

Had their colours lowered for only the second time this season, losing to a very good Glenelg Gold team 2-14. Fitzy's catch at second was worth the price of admission, and King kept us entertained with his foot juggling act. But the Bays were stronger in most departments and we were restricted to only four hits - namely one each to Cuz, Rev, Dorny and Nate.

DIVISION EIGHT

Ditto - only four hits in this 16-2 loss to East Torrens away. Aaron Petros, Shane Nicholson, Shane Lodge and Matt Davey.

WOMAN'S DIVISION ONE

At Don Klaebe Field Sun 5.02.23 v Glenelg

WON 15-7

A couple of early hic-cups gave the Bays two of their eventual four runs, but the girls knuckled down and were flawless off the back of Dana's fine game on the mound for the rest of the day. The max five in the second came from a couple of walks and a towering Taylor double, and so it continued with precision until the end. Next week - top of the table clash with Southern Districts - good luck girls, we owe them. Hits : Taylor McKay, Darna Boers-Veen, Ash George, Sarah McMahon, Alyssa Lasscock 1.

WOMAN'S DIVISION TWO

Away v Glenelg 3.02.23

WON 11-6. Terrific result to record their first away win, after giving the Bays a head start, but powering home for the win. Christie came in 5-1 down and threw 3 innings for 1 run and Alice shut them down in the last. No errors and 4 great catches in the field. Fantastic batting as well Molly 2 hits and 3 RBIs, Indie and Di 2 hits, Dakota, Kym and Kerryn 1 hit and Christie 2 RBIs.

JUNIORS U15

Draw 1-1 with Adelaide This wasn't the walk in the park as it has been for most of the season. The girls and boys had to fight a bit harder against a much stronger pitching opposition, and it took until the third to score our solitary run, the result of errors. Our guys were reluctant to swing, and it showed with only one hit recorded - that was to Haysey - our pitcher, who was dominant once again, and ably assisted by Alice at the end.

U14

Lost 2-11 to Adelaide.

U13(1)

Dominant performance against West Torrens to mercy them 12-0 after four. Archie started and had four strikeouts and was relieved by Felix who had five. The batters were terrific, with seven having one hit each - Remy Brooks, Hugo Marshall, Benji Hayes, Chace Wallis, Luke Fawcett, Archie Wallis and Jacob Atkinson.

U13(2)

Lost 2-21. Some really good signs - cracking catches in the field by Aiden and Remy, and Owen made his pitching debut.

U11 J

ust got pipped 4-6 and the batting display was more than encouraging. Kylah struck out three, Myles pitched and Isaac had two strikeouts. Kylah had two hits in a fine all-round game.

U10

Went to Henley and Grange and lost 0-7

GODANATS!!

DIVISION ONE

Twilight away v Adelaide Tue 24.01.23

Lost 0-1

One throwing error in the fourth and that was the ball game.  The guy was safe at first and got pushed around to score the game's solitary run, and with our lack of hitting, that was all it took.  Neither side was getting bat on ball with Drew and his counterpart dominating, and there were few highlights - in all a pretty dull affair.  Callum got cleated in a collision and received treatment, but returned to steal a base and took on one too many attempts - out.  So we go to the top of the seventh (and last) and our boys found their bats and Callum hit to get on base, Troy N did likewise, Wade got hit and the bases were loaded.  Guess what ? Zilch runs.  Hits  :  Callum Park, Troy Nicholson 1.  Drew Janssen can hold his head up, as the loss can't be put down to him.

DIVISION ONE

Away v Adelaide  Sat 28.01 23

Lost 5-9

What a controversial, creepy game this turned out to be.  We got off to a flyer with Drew making light of their high home run fence and setting the scene for Rackers to follow suit next dig with a homer of his own . We got four when Joel and Callum hit after the Rackers bomb and Cesar did the right thing and forced them home.  Tyson McKee was ripping them down and shutting them off for four innings until they got one in the sixth.  And we go to the seventh leading 5-2 and the rain, which had been getting heavier, was the decider.  The Angels got three off relief pitcher Cesar, who couldn't control the bar of soup he was dealing with and the tarps came out to halt play with bases loaded.  However, and this is the creepy part, the game was resumed shortly thereafter - still raining - and the home side got another four.  The ground lights were switched on, but still we went on in the rain. Final two shots at it produced nothing and the game was lost.  One to remember for all the wrong reasons.  Hits  :  Drew Janssen (HR), Cesar Perez 2, Callum Park, Troy Nicholson, Wade Moore, Luke Rackerbrandt (HR) Joel Chapman 1. Special mention - Callum Park - speccy at second base.

DIVISION TWO

Away v Adelaide 28.01.23  Sat

WON 7-5

Terrific start to the game by our boys - Todd doubled, Kuhna and Muggsy both singled, so one on the board, and when Finners had an RBI and we lucked out with an error, three was the total.  Kuhna took a blinder of a catch to hold them, but the next dig was hard yakka and they posted four.  In the fifth Todd walked, Kuhna doubled, DChap doubled to score them both and Finner's sac-fly got another.  Joe went four and Nathan mopped up with three.  Hits  :  Todd Dunstall, Nick Kuhn 2, Ryan Muggleton, Daniel Chapman, Mitch Fienemann 1.

DIVISION THREE

Away v Adelaide Sat 28.01.23

Lost 4-6

Tyson went seven innings with eight strike-outs, and it was a fine effort.  David Lodge in his possie as D/H was great with RBI's and Tom contributed this week with one hit.  Hits  :  David Lodge 3, Shane Brown 2, Breanden Taheny, Tom Dineen 1.

DIVISION SIX

Went down 3-13 and still looking for that elusive win.  Great bunch.

DIVISION SEVEN

WON 15-4 over Goodwood after shaking off that rare loss last weekend.  Humour and banter was at its best with Cuz offering Fringe tickets for his comedy act.  Casey was again in fine form on the mound and the defence stood up all day.  Hits  :  Nicko 3, Sully (in the park home run - (puff-puff), King, Cam, Dorny 2,  Cuz, Casey 1.

DIVISION EIGHT

Lost to Kensington 2-17 with only two hitters telling the story - Mike Chemny and Shane Nicholson one each.

WOMANS DIVISION ONE

At Don Klaebe Field 29.01.23     v     Sturt     WON 14-2 (Mercy)

Comprehensive win by this well oiled team, led by Carly and Darna with great contributions from ALL the girls.  Only got one in the first, but the writing was on the wall as five runs came in the second with all the team getting in on the act.  Can't really single anyone out, but the birthday girl hit a double in the last and it seemed to really stamp our authority over the opposition.

So I've got Darna going five with eight strike-outs and hits  :  Amara Quinn, Sarah McMahon 3, Carly Moore, Ash George 2, Darna BoersVeen, Megan BoersVeen 1.  Great job by many hands to get it all rolling after the extensive rains, but Darna on the wheelbarrow was a worry with a little spillage - supposed to be a pro at it!

WOMANS DIVISION TWO

At Don Klaebe Field 27.01.23

Lost 9-11  v Adelaide

Good game to watch with our team streaking to the lead early with five on the board, but allowing the Angels to come from behind at the death and knock us off.  Alice, Christie and Indy pitched for us, and we thought we were home and hosed when an Alice double was rewarded and Di got her home, but the opposition was good enough to pip us on the post.  Hits  :  Alice Brown, Di Barry 2, Indie O'Hazy-Zcshorn, Dakota Ding 1.

JUNIORS

U15

Really, really looking the goods being undefeated so far - but you have to keep a lid on it - no guarantees in this game.   Defeated GGCD 19-5 in an impressive all round display.  What more can you say?  Oliver Hayes did the bulk of the pitching and was almost unhittable early.  Doggy handed me a piece of almost indeciferable piece of paper for the hits so here goes  :  Indie 3,Noah 1, Oliver VanDommele 1, Oliver Hayes 1, Diesel 1 (hit the fence on the full), Jack 1, Will 1, Dakota 1, Alice 1.  Apologies for any mistakes.

U14

Had a ripping 17-3 win over Gawler to make it two in a row.  Felix and Dakota did the deed from the mound, and Will Stock had two hits, and the Fawcett family featured with Jasmine and Luke each contributing a hit, and Dakota, Caleb and Riley one each as well.

U13 (1)

Travelled to Southern District and came the long haul home 7-2 winners.  Great effort guys.

>> U13(2)  Played at home and had a maiden win against Kensington 9-8 in a walk-off.  Highlights - Max and Roni did a great job from the middle and were helped by a solid performance behind the plate by Ruby who enhanced her day with a great catch.  Lily had the pleasure of walking in the winning run, and the hits were  :  Ely 2, Ruby, Mochi, Jack, Roni 1.  Special mentions to Aiden, Remy and Owen.

>> U11  Lost 2-12 but enjoyed the experience and finished all smiles.

>> U10   Had a ball - this is the way to go.
