 DIVISION ONE

At Don Klaebe Field 21.01.23  v Port

Lost 1-8

What a giant letdown!  Certainly going in favourites, and Tyson McMee holding them beautifully for the first four innings, we completely let ourselves down in the latter part of the fifth whenpop  they bunted and relied on our errors to score a quickfire five.  Then we appeared to get a giant bonus in the bottom of the fifth - we were on our way when their pitcher gifted us firstly a walk, then two HBP to load the bases with none out.  Guess what - zero - left three out there for the second time in the game.  Cesar came into the game and held them and Troy Nicholson provided a small piece of bravado by scoring our only run with a homer to save us from dropping our pants.  We stopped the bleeding at the finish with tight defence, but were never in the hunt from mid-game  At least this week we had a few hitters - you don't win too many games without them.  Hits  :  Drew Janssen. Troy Nicholson (HR), Daniel Chapman, Wade Moore, Ethan Marchioro 1.  Still third, but must stop this poor form since just before Christmas.

DIVISION TWO

At Don Klaebe Field 21.01.23      v Port

WON 7-6

Walk-off wizards these blokes - and do you reckon Rackers wasn't pumped when his single brought in the winner in just the nick of time.  Earlier, Two Hit Tommy was at his finest with a double followed by a Nat single, and TJ stole home in spectacular fashion.  We dropped behind when our old enemy (errors) reared his head and we handed them a few easy ones.  Finners took over from Joe and it was then left to Rackers.  Job done.  Hits  :  Tom Dineen (the aforesaid) 2, Nick Kuhn, Todd Dunstall, Luke Rackerbrandt, Tyson Jarvis, Nathan Nicholson 1.

DIVISION THREE

At Don Klaebe Field 21.01.23     v Port

WON 11-1

Never in doubt this one.  We managed three in the first, five in the third after two outs and the runs just kept coming all game until the mercy rule was brought into play.  Kosi had hits, Harry knocked up hitting doubles and triples, Carly and Toby both had bookend doubles in the same inning, and Tyson had a great outing going the distance with seven strikeouts.  He is getting deeper and deeper into his work as the season goes on, and Toby looks the goods at shortstop and Carly is excelling behind the dish.  Hits  :  Kiss 3, Moore, Owen, Ikeda 2, Papps, Marsland, Chu, Kortekaas 1.

DIVISION SIX

Away v Adelaide 21.01 23

Lost 0-5

Pretty good effort this against a goodish side with all of our guys contributing.  The team morale is high and comradeship is apparent, and let's hope that a win is just around the corner.  Hits  :  Aldo McCormack, Laurie Sinclair 2, Owen Williams, Justin Randall, Josh Boden, Josh Mignone 1.

DIVISION SEVEN

Away v Adelaide 21.01.23

Lost 1-16

Wow - did you see that score?  No worries, this top of the table team will be able to shake off the loss you have to have and continue on with their season.   Better to lose now than at the pointy end of the season.  They were never in the hunt in a game that was not theirs from the getgo.  Hits  :  Nicko, Casey 2, Watto, Cuz 1.

DIVISION EIGHT

Home v Gawler 21.01.23

Lost 4-15

Looked the goods early with three on the board, but still left three out there. Then the opposition got five after we worked hard to get two outs, and we struggled to get any outs in the next while they got seven.  Derek was great catching all game, really entertaining with his spectacular antics after an attempted pop-up catch.  Hits  :  Shane Nicholson, Kim H, Kim S 1.

WOMAN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE

At Don Klaebe Field 22.01.23 v Adelaide

WON 19-4

The camp was thrown into confusion at the last minute when Darna called in sick, and we were going in with the bare nine anyway.  So, crises averted, we went into the game confident that all was patched up.  The "Angels" surprised with a couple, but Carly snuffed that out with an all in the park home run after Lisa had got on base.  She got  bit worrried that Carly might overtake her on the run, and that was the first of four in the first.  Then five in the second, five in the third, five in the fourth.  Some highlights  -  Terrific double-play - Taylor picked up a bunt, out at second, out at first.  Amara doubled, Taylor swapped places, Di's first Div 1 game and safe hit and numerous more.  Taylor stood in for the sick Darna and did a terrific job going the distance.  Hits  :  Carly Moore (HR) 3, Amara Quinn, Sarah McMahon, Taylor McKay 2, Alyssa Lasscock, Catie Berry, Di Barry 1.

DIVISION TWO

Away v WTorrens  20.01.23

Lost 3-20

The girls were brave fronting a team that contained a number of div one softballers playing on a small under 15 diamond, who choose to play in the lower competition to avoid the dreaded Sunday 4.00pm timeslot.  Come on!!

JUNIORS

U15  -   Home v Port

WIN 25-0

Diesel was in his best form on the mound, and went deep and allowed his mate Haysey to finish in what was a clinical display all round. The batting was precise, and runs were coming at a cracking pace.  On top of the ladder, but need to keep a lid on it.  Hits  :  not a bad list - Remy, Jack 2, Will, Oliver, Alice, Diesel, Matthew, Noah, Dakota, Indie.

U14  -  Home v Kensington

WIN 11-6

Not too many hits here, in fact Will Stock was our only hitter with two.  Alice continued her good season form by putting up twelve strikeouts in her four innings.

U13 -1  Away

Lost 6-7

Got behind early, got in front and led all day until they were nutted at the end in a walk-off.

U13 -2   Home v WTorrens

Lost 7-20

Fought on well - some really good plays.

U11

WON  9-0 on a forfeit.

Unfortunately no opposition.

U10

Lost 4-9 in a game that the coaches all said that it was as good as a win because the kids were terrific and handled their bigger opponents well.

GODANATS!!!

DIVISION ONE

Twilight v Nth District 10.01.23 at Don Klaebe Field

WON 11-7

The boys from the North brought their best game with them and posted four runs courtesy of a couple of fence clearing hits to claim the early ascendancy.  It wasn't until the fifth that we got going, and we poured on six runs to hit the front, but those pesky Reds got two more to equal.  In these twilight games of only seven innings, it doesn't pay to go to sleep, so the guys got cracking and five runs proved to be the clinchers, including a home run to Troy Nicholson.  These runs proved to be enough, as only one run was forthcoming from the Reds' last at bat.  New dad Joel went five and Cesar finished.  Hits  :  Troy Nicholson (HR) 3, Cesar Perez, Daniel Chapman, Wade Moore, Troy Weinert 1.

DIVISION ONE

Away v GGCD  14.01.23

 Lost 2-4

This was one of those heat shortened games - seven digs and ninety minutes - so you have to be on your mettle. So we got a run in the first due to some wayward pitching and a heap of errors, but we had duckeggs for the next five innings, and the opposition batters were not faring any better because Drew was having a great day on the hill.  Our defence was superb at this stage, highlighted by a great outfield catch from Joel, and some really classy double plays.  They got lucky in the sixth and really broke open the game with four runs which was to be the back breaker, and we got one in the last which proved to be not good enough.  Major disappointment.  I asked the scorers at the end of the game to give me a list of hitters as I always do, and they handed me a blank piece of paper.  Long time since I've seen that.  Hits  :  zip, zip and zip.

DIVISION TWO

Away v GGCD  14.01.23

WON 6-4

We started on red-hot pace, knocking in four after a Muggs'y double got Armando home and Racker's single scored another two.  Sorry, no more references to the Muggleton name, I promised.  They put the cat among the pigeons with a two run homer and a further two to equal but DChap put us in front with an RBI an we followed up with another.  All plain sailing really, with Joe  and Troy Nicho doing a number on them.  Hits  :  No 25, Andrew Chapman 2, Armando Ramirez, Luke Rackerbrandt, Rhys Owen 1

DIVISION THREE

Away v GGCD  14.01.23

Lost 5-6

A bit stiff here really - got in front after Doggy scored Lodgy and Jimmy got home due to a hit and errors, they replied with one, but we took the lead again after pitcher Tyson, in a relatively rare at bat, hit a fine  double, followed up by a Jose double.  But, the Dodger boys were not finished and rallied to score five to put them in front by two, and Pappsy came on to stem the flow. They were two in front, and with these heat shortened games, we were only able to get another one before time ran out in controversial circumstances.   Hits  :  Shane Brown 2, Jose Ramirez, Kieran Pett, David Lodge, Jimmy Chu, Tyson Hancock 1.

DIVISION SIX

Away v Port  14.01.23

Lost 2-6

Josh Mignone pitched the entire game.  No other details.

DIVISION SEVEN

Home v Port 14.01.23

WON 6-1

Casey went the distance from the hill aided by an errorless defence in this heat shortened game, and Watto hit Cuz superbly on the chest from second to complete a faultless double play.  Hitters in this game were  :  Sully, Nicko,Casey and Dorny - one each.  Sticking to the top spot.

DIVISION EIGHT

WON 13-3

The arduous trip to Southern Districts for a 9am start proved no problems for our intrepid Divvie eighters and Judy.  She had no scorer to sit alongside, and at one stage there was no umpire to be seen.  However this is when the tough get going.  Hits  :  Aaron Petros, Greg Oxenham 3, David Brooks 2, Shane Nicholson, Tony Tuttle, Matt Davey, Shane Lodge, Kim Soung 1.

WOMAN'S LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE

Away v East Torrens 15.01.23

WON 17-0

First dig, and Carly, Darna, Smack, Alyssa and Amara all hit to post four good ones.  Followed up with the maximum five in the next, then a three run inning and the maximum five again in the fourth with a Taylor treble being a highlight. She had been waiting for one all game to be in her wheelhouse, and she made the most of it.  Amara (15 years old) produced a terrific effort from the middle, pitching superbly in her first Div One start, going the distance and striking out six in a shutout.  Fine display all round, and the scene is now set for the next five games at home base on Sunday afternoons at 4.00pm.  Go girls!  Hits  :  Carly Moore 4, Darna BoersVeen, Sarah McMahon 3, Alyssa Lasscock, Catie Berry 2, Ash George, Amara Quinn, Taylor McKay, Megan BoersVeen, Skye Tasiopolous 1.

DIVISION TWO

At Don Klaebe Field 13.01 23 v Sth Districts

WON 11-7

What a delight to see Friday night baseball back on our home deck in front of a bumper and appreciative crowd.  The girls loved it, we all loved it and surely that is the way forward.  Our two pitchers namely Dakota (13 years old) with four strikeouts and Alice (12 years old) with five strikeouts did their Coach, Carly, proud.  The Hawks' girls got two to start, we got three, they got four, we got another five.  We really dried them up and went on our winning way.  Hits  :  Toni Ansell 2, Di Barry, Molly Brown, Dakota Ding 1.

Juniors all back next week      -     GODANATS!

 DIVISION ONE

Twilight     v     Sturt away 3.01.23

Lost 0-10

Talk about been there done that - they did a number on us the week before Christmas, and here we are at their home ground again copping a similar belting with nothing changing.  Fair dinkum, their hitting was just as positive as it was previously, but our defence was poorer this time, which enabled them to close the game early - namely mercy in five.  We had a great squad rock up for the game - great to see - but after we restricted them to one in their first, the floodgates opened and they hit, hit, hit and combined with an error ridden inning, all of a sudden they had nine on the board.  A couple of positives - Josh Tols and Todd VanSteensel played an inning each to help qualify for finals, and Joe Chapman made his Div One debut for the Senators toward the end of the game, and can hold his head high.  Hits  :  All at the back end of the game - Wade Moore, Armando Ramirez, Daniel Chapman.

DIVISION ONE

Twilight     v     ETorrens     5.01.23     at Don Klaebe Field

Lost 2-5

Drew and his counterpart on the mound were holding both sets of batters at bay, in fact there were only two hits recorded up to the middle of the fifth (both by ET), and no runs until Weiny's educated bunt advanced runners and Ethan's ground ball hit up the middle scored two.  Runs at last - but the elation was shortlived as we gifted them four in the sixth with errors contributing greatly.  Up to Christmas we were on top of the pile for runs scored, but have now scored only five in our last three games.  Watch out for a flood of runs coming soon.   Drew went the distance in a fine display, and Wade Moore was our only batter to record a hit with one.

DIVISION'S ONE, TWO and THREE

away     v     Kensington    7.01.23

WINS 6-1, 11-2, 7-2 respectively.

A long time since we have gone up to play on the putting green and come home with three comprehensive wins.  So we will do this in chronological order.

DIVISION THREE

WIN  7-2

Tyson was in control - in fact he went the distance - and never looked like flagging.  There was a fun rundown in the second before Rhys put one over, but a crucial moment came in the fourth when the other mob loaded the bases with none out out, but we got out of jail with aplomb and just good baseball.  We got a couple more when Rhys stole (?) and Aldo put up a sac fly.  This set the scene for the day.  Hits  :  Breandon Taheny 3, Carly Moore, Jarod Marsland 2, Rhys Owen(HR), Jimmy Chu, Shane Brown 1.

DIVISION TWO

WIN  11-2

Got off to a rollicking start with Finners  searing one down the third base line, and Kuhna following up to score one, in fact one run in each of the first three digs.  But the fourth belonged to Muggsy with his three run double, and a blinding diving catch and putout from first.  Mean old Joe Chapman was knocking them dead at this stage, going five, and Finners hadn't finished and knocked in a couple more.  They got two consolation runs at the end, but no worries, the damage had well and truly been done.  Hits  :  Mitch Fienemann, Armando Ramerez 2, Nick Kuhn, Ryan Muggleton, Todd Dunstall, Joe Papps, Tyson Jarvis 1.

DIVISION ONE

WIN 6-1

Kendo got one in the first, but that was the shut out point.  No more.  Tyson McKee was superb from then on going deep into the final inning and setting the platform for some good baseball from our guys.  Drew doubled in the fourth, and a Callum bunt enabled us to put a score on the board to equal   Our runs were coming, but we really lit up the game in the eighth when Drew (who said earlier he could put one over the short fences) and Troy Nicholson hit two bombs off consecutive pitches.  Rarely seen at this level.  A real comprehensive win, in fact three wins that showed where we are at.  Hits   :  Drew Janssen (HR) 3, Troy Nicholson (HR), Daniel Chapman, Callum Park, Ryan Muggleton 1. A very satisfying day in the summer weather.  Like I said before, always good to come home victorious.  Another game on Tuesday twilight, this week against Nth Districts - so that's four in a week.  Pity the pitchers.  Incidently - congratulations to Joel, Kahlia and the kids on the arrival of Toby Peter.

DIVISION SIX

Played Sth Districts at home and went down 11-14 in Justin Randall's one hundredth game - congrats Justin.  He pitched well in relief also, not conceding a run.  Hits  :  Owen Williams, Justin Randall 3, Andrew Eime (solid triple), Nate Oliver, Phil Zschorn 2, Josh Boden, Josh Mignone, Casey Moore 1.

DIVISION SEVEN

Defeated Sth Districts 5-4 to remain undefeated and on top of the ladder.  Did it the hard way with a flurry of runs at the end to take the win. Div Hits  :  Fitzy, Cuz, Nicko, China, Casey, Rev, Dorny & Flash one each.  Sully was great on the mound and Casey cleaned up.

DIVISION EIGHT

Battled manfully away against H&G with eight players, and lost narrowly 8-13.  Hits  :  Aaron Petros, Mike Chemny 2, Matt Davey, Dave Ding, Shane Lodge 1.

WOMENS LEAGUE

DIVISION ONE At Sth Districts

Lost 7-8

Great day in the sun at Christie Downs, but we were always behind the eight-ball in this one with three from our main starting line-up still on Christmas breaks.  We have never had our top  nine against this team, but time will tell.  Darna started from the middle in her usual fine form, but the strike zone became a keyhole as the game went on, and the home side seemed to enjoy our misfortune.  We made up ground in the last before an early time was called, knocking in four to just fall one short.  However the game was lost in the first, when we had bases loaded and left them all out there lamenting.  Hits  :  Carly Moore, Alyssa Lasscock (who's last dig triple nearly tipped the game our way) 2, Ash George, Leah Turner 1.

DIVISION TWO     At Goodwood

Lost 9-10

Gutsy performance by the girls, who, the majority of them, are on school holidays at the moment.  The pitching trio of Alice, Indy and Dakota was terrific, and they will be breaking through for more wins very soon.

JUNIORS - resume Jan 22.
