DIVISION ONE
Two games required to round out the season - one being a catch up game because of a washout at Kensington earlier in the season, and the other being the last game of the minor round. So, there we were in a double-header situation - two games at home against the Cardinals, really needing at least the one win to make sure of locking in second place and home game finals. Don't worry about one win, we beat them in both in comprehensive fashion.
DIVISION ONE - Game one
At Don Klaebe Field Sat v Kensington 2.03.24
WON 6-0
We loaded the bases in the first and a Troy sacfly got us up and about, and we continued to hit and the runs came consistantly, including a nice one by Ollie Hayes in his first Div One start. Drew snaffled the ball and it's on its way to a pool room in Mildura. AJ went the distance without giving up a run, and really had a great outing. Troy put the icing on the cake by knocking one over the fence in the last dig to finalise procedings. Hits : Wade Moore, Cesar Perez, Drew Janssen, Troy Nicholson (HR), Adenson Verastegui (AJ) 2, Oliver Hayes 1.
DIVISION ONE - Game two
At Don Klaebe Field Sat v Kensington 2.03.24
WON 4-0
Slightly different starting lineup with some of the guys coming back from the Div Two game at Sturt. Drew had the new ball and didn't disappoint as he threw a fine four innings before giving way to Cesar and then Troy closed them down. Drew had a good one, showing the opposition how to steal bases and Joel was strong with an RBI. We got a touch of nerves when they managed to load the bases in the fifth, but no worries, Cesar snuffed them out. Hits : Cesar Perez, Drew Janssen, Joel Chapman 2, Greg Bravo 1.
So that's the minor round done and our next task is to knock off Adelaide in a three game series at Don Klaebe Field next weekend. Get there !
DIVISION TWO
Away V Sturt
Lost
Didn't have the best of days but the good news is that they live to fight another day and take on Henley & Grange away next weekend.
JUNIORS
Senior League (U17)
Started their finals campaign strong, beating Golden Grove 20-2 behind a strong team pitching performance headed by Diesel, Indie and Ollie Hayes.
The team showed their strength in hitting as well as pitching headlined by Lachie Stock collecting 2 hits and Tommy J blasting a double. All members of the team contributed with the bat from the get go, heaping immense pressure on the Golden Grove pitching staff.
We look forward to the next round of home finals as the team looks to continue their fantastic form.
Junior League (U15/1)
Woodville 15 Def Pt Adelaide 4
Junior League kicked off its finals campaign with a fantastic win over Pt Adelaide, we had a tight contest only recently with Port so we expected a tough match. It started with Pt Adelaide being 3-0 up after some good early hitting, our nerves settled and we started hitting their starter who was looking strong, by the end of 3rd inning we were 5-3 up and the tide was turning. Alice Brown was pitching well and did another outstanding job in 5 innings work giving up 6 hits and recording 2 strikeouts and some excellent defensive plays kept them scoreless in the 4th & 5th. In the 4th inning we got the maximum 7 runs with some excellent team batting with hitters drawing plenty of walks with a couple of hits chimed in, another 3 runs in the bottom of 5th saw us 15-3 up and then they got 1 in top of the 6th after a lead off walk but game was over due to mercy rule in top 6th, a great closing effort by Sebastian Bravo. Benji Hayes did a great job behind the plate and drew 4 walks and a nice line shot that was caught late in the game. A great overall team effort.
Hits:
Chace Wallis 2 (1 RBI)
Sebastian Bravo 1 (1 RBI)
Remy Brooks 1 (2 RBI)
Archie Wallis 1 (1 RBI)
Luke Fawcett RBI ground out & RBI walk
Hugo Marshall RBI ground out
Alice Brown & Will Stock both RBI walks, incidentally Alice had 3 walks and a HPB in 4 plate appearances.
Intermediate League (U14)
Remy and Bodhi pitched well against the number 1 team filled with good hitters. Some great work in the field by Xavier at 3B and Felix at 1B saw us keep Golden Grove scoreless in the 2nd innings and only concede 1 run in the 4th. Remy fielded well off his own pitching and took a fantastic catch when moved to short stop. Luke put in a good shift behind the plate.
Whilst not reflected in the 15-0 loss, the team played some great baseball against a very good opponent.
Hits: Remy 1, Xavier 1
Little League (U13)
The team had an excellent start to the finals series, winning 9-3 against Golden Grove after mercying them in the 5th innings. Even though some of the players were new to the finals, they demonstrated that they could handle the pressure. The team and its players received a lot of cheering and support.
